Favourite Quotes 29

'My goal in life is to be as good a person my dog already thinks I am.'

Author unknown

A silly one for my final quote! I don't have a dog, but occasionally borrow an elderly lurcher from friends, and the welcome he gives me boosts my ego for the whole day! Thanks, Blaze!

Favourite Quotes 28

'You are in charge of your feelings, beliefs, and actions. And you teach others how to behave toward you. While you cannot change other people, you can influence them through your own behaviors and actions. By being a living role model of what you want to receive from others, you create more of what you want in your life.'

Eric Allenbaugh

I know through my own experience how true this is, and also how much easier it is to blame others for their 'bad' behaviour!

Favourite Quotes 27

'Some things cannot be spoken or discovered until we have been stuck, incapacitated, or blown off course for awhile. Plain sailing is pleasant, but you are not going to explore many unknown realms that way.'

David Whyte

I certainly find it is true that I am most creative when things aren't going my way and I have to try different ways to get back on track.

Favourite Quotes 26

'You have to find something that you love enough to be able to take risks, jump over the hurdles and break through the brick walls that are always going to be placed in front of you. If you don't have that kind of feeling for what it is you're doing, you'll stop at the first giant hurdle.'

George Lucas

Sometimes it can seem as though successful people have some sort of magic - all we see is the success and the glory. What we don't see is all the hard work that has gone into the success and all the obstacles they had to overcome to get there.
Recently I heard Mario Testino, the fashion photographer, on Desert Island Discs. Apparently for 7 years he rented a flat which was part of a homeless shelter because it was all he could afford. He used to ring potential clients from a payphone - sometimes up to 30 times before he got an appointment! The gulf between that and his present lifestyle is amazing, but incredibly encouraging.

Favourite Quotes 25

'Be not afraid of growing slowly; be afraid only of standing still.'

Chinese Proverb

Sometimes it feels that not only am I learning slowly, I am actually going backwards. A friend reminded me the other day that when that happens, we are not really going backwards, just encountering an issue on another level and one day we will get to the core of it and not have to face it any more.

Favourite Quotes 24

'I find it fascinating that most people plan their vacations with better care than they plan their lives. Perhaps that is because escape is easier than change.'

Jim Rohn

Favourite Quotes 23

'Keep away from people who try to belittle your ambitions. Small people always do that, but the really great make you feel that you, too, can become great.'

Mark Twain

Have you ever confided your dearest-held ambition to someone, only to have them pour scorn or doubt on the whole thing? It used to demoralise me, until I realised it said more about them than about my plans. Now I tend to follow Wayne Dyer's advice and keep it to myself until I am well on the way. I find it keeps the energy much clearer.
